Etsy Fees & Profit Calculator (2026): See Exactly What You Keep Per Sale

By Xiaosong Wen · Updated September 2026 · Etsy seller tools & costs

An Etsy listing priced at $35 feels like a win until the fees land: a 6.5% transaction fee on the total including shipping, payment processing on top of that, $0.20 auto-renewals that never stop, and — if the order came through Offsite Ads — a 15% cut that can turn a "profitable" sale into a loss.

Most sellers find out what they actually keep only when the payment statement arrives. This calculator does it up front: enter your price, shipping, and costs below, and it breaks out every Etsy fee and shows your real net — per sale and per month.

Fee rates below are editable — Etsy changes them. Defaults: transaction 6.5%, payment processing 3% + $0.25, listing auto-renew $0.20, offsite ads 15%. Always verify at etsy.com/legal/fees.

How Etsy Fees Work in 2026

Every sale on Etsy is hit by four separate charges, and two of them stack on the shipping the buyer pays, not just the item price. That detail is where most sellers under-estimate fees.

FeeRate (2026 default)Charged on
Listing / auto-renewal$0.20 per listingEvery 4 months, or instantly when an item sells and renews
Transaction fee6.5%Item price + shipping + gift wrap
Payment processing3% + $0.25 (US)Total order incl. shipping & tax; varies by country (3–4%+)
Offsite Ads fee15% (or 12% if you earn >$10K/yr)Only orders that arrive via Offsite Ads — opt-in under $10K, mandatory over it
Currency conversion~2.5% above market rateOnly when you sell in a currency different from your own

One more cost that is not a percentage: Etsy Plus ($10/mo) if you subscribe for shop branding and credits. It is optional and, for most shops under ~30 orders a month, the fee math rarely justifies it.

Worked Example: A $35 Listing With $5 Shipping

Say the item costs you $9 in materials and packaging, you charge $35 plus $5 shipping, and the order is a normal (non-Offsite-Ads) sale:

Gross (item + shipping)$40.00
Transaction fee (6.5% of $40)− $2.60
Payment processing (3% of $40 + $0.25)− $1.45
Listing auto-renew− $0.20
Item cost− $9.00
Net per sale$26.75 — a 76% margin on the $35 item price

Now flip the Offsite Ads checkbox on for the same order: fees jump by $6.00 (15% of $40), and your net drops to $20.75 — a 24% pay cut for one checkbox. That is the single biggest swing in the whole fee structure, which is why the calculator separates it out.

The Three Places Fee Math Silently Eats Profit

1. Fees on shipping

Because the 6.5% transaction fee and the ~3% processing fee both apply to the buyer-paid shipping, "free shipping" promotions quietly shift that cost onto your item price — where it is also fee-charged. The fee total is identical; the psychological framing is not.

2. Offsite Ads above $10,000/year

Once your shop passes $10K in trailing 12-month sales, Offsite Ads participation becomes mandatory (12% fee tier). Shops that grew fast on Etsy-driven traffic can suddenly find 12–15% of a large share of orders stripped out. Plan for it in pricing before you cross the threshold.

3. The $0.20 death by a thousand cuts

One auto-renewal is nothing. Two hundred listings that each renew a few times a month is $40–120/month of pure fee that never shows up as a percentage anywhere. When you run the calculator with your real listing count, the "free listing" illusion collapses fast.

Pricing Backwards: Set Prices From Your Target Net

The reliable way to price on Etsy is not "what feels fair" — it is working backwards from the net you need. For an order with buyer-paid shipping S, cost C, and no Offsite Ads, your item price p needs to satisfy: net = (p + S) × (1 − 0.065 − 0.03) − $0.45 − C − $0.20. If you want $25 net on a $9 item with $5 shipping, you need to charge about $37 for the item — and that is before ads, discounts, or promos.

Practical rules of thumb: (1) never set a price whose 50%-off promo still clears your cost; (2) treat Offsite Ads as a 12–15% tax once you scale; (3) re-run the numbers every time Etsy announces a fee change — they have raised transaction fees twice in the last five years.

FAQ

Does Etsy take a fee from shipping?

Yes. The transaction fee (6.5%) and payment processing (~3% + $0.25) both apply to the total order amount, which includes what the buyer paid for shipping.

How much does Etsy take per sale in total?

For a typical US sale with no Offsite Ads: about 9.5% of the gross (item + shipping) plus $0.45 in flat fees and $0.20 auto-renewal. With an Offsite Ads order it is roughly 21–24% of gross.

Is Etsy free to open a shop?

Yes — creating a shop is free, and listings cost $0.20 each. You only pay per sale and per listing renewal. Etsy Plus ($10/mo) is optional.

Are these 2026 rates?

We use the rates published on Etsy's seller policy pages as of September 2026, and the calculator lets you edit every rate so it stays correct if Etsy changes them. Confirm current figures at etsy.com/legal/fees.
